They are on fire right now.Īs luck would have it, they are on tour in the UK throughout September and October!Īll words by Neil Johnson. This is a band that just seems to get better and better with each album. Both tracks are full of massively enjoyable riffs and energy.ĭeceivers is my favourite Arch Enemy record to date. My favourites are The Watcher, which is the heaviest track on the record and Deceiver, Deceiver. The album ends with Exiled from Earth, a dark and broody monster that’s destined to be a favourite in the live show for sure. Sunset over the Empire gives Sharlee D’Angelo’s gorgeous basslines the focus before Alissa growls at us with the words “Welcome to the Apocalypse.”. The drumming of Daniel Erlandsson on In the Eye of the Storm is thunderous, along with Amott’s famous lead notes cutting through the mix like a knife through butter. The rest of Deceivers has an unusually uplifting and positive tone. This album is easily their best to date we played the opener Handshake with Hell on Louder Than War’s Metal Show, The Monster Shop and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Alissa’s vocals are exceptional as always, but the songs have been written to give her the space she always needed, I especially enjoyed her clean voice. War Eternal, also released in 2014, set the new standard for the band and they’ve been a force of nature ever since.ĭeceivers delivers more of the same melodic death metal, soaring lead guitars and sublime death vocals that we’ve become accustomed to, but Deceivers feels a little different. The band came out swinging but didn’t really hit their stride until Alissa White-Gluz joined on vocals in 2014. So, when Arch Enemy was formed, there was considerable hype. ![]() Michael was the lead guitarist with Carcass and was responsible for the lead work on their Heartwork album. Michael Amott and Johan Liiva formed Arch Enemy in 1995. Deceivers gives that massive voice of hers the platform that it always needed. Since Alissa White-Gluz joined in 2014, Arch Enemy has been on an unstoppable upward trajectory.
